TODAY'S AGENDA
  1. Do Now: Start Your DIRT Day Entry
  2. ASSIGNMENT SUBMISSION: Summer Reading
  3. Learning Target: Today you will select a book to read from the class library and read independently for ten minutes for a class participation grade. We will practice the routine for getting books and returning books to the class library.
  4. Rituals for the Classroom Library
    - Using your index card, select a book from your list.
    - Remember the genre from which you selected your book.
    - Replace the book NEATLY in the same genre from which you took it.
  5. Starting today, we will be having DIRT Day regularly. On those days you are expected to enter the room, get your materials and start reading without being told to do so.  This will be part of your grade for DIRT Day.
  6. RULES FOR DIRT Day
    - Read silently for fifteen minutes.
    - Have a positive attitude about reading the book.
    - Do not disturb the quiet of the room.
    - When done, enter three connections based on what you read in your DIRT Entry.
    - I will be monitoring the class while you read and recording participation grades.
    - Grading: Everyone starts with a 100%. Each time you break a rule during DIRT Day, I will deduct 10 points from your grade for each infraction.
  7. Assessment: Poll the class about their books. Discuss why a book may not be a good choice (not interesting, confusing). Discuss the Abandoning a Book Form in handbook. You may abandon the book you read today without penalty. After the next DIRT Day, you must have permission to abandon a book from Mr. DeGrandis and must complete the Abandon a Book Form.
  8. HW:  None
