Entry Title:  Collaborative Essay Writing
Two or more people working together to produce a written document. Collaborative writing is an important part of work in the business world, and many forms of business writing depend on the efforts of group writing teams.

Learning Targets

  1. I can support a topic sentence (claim) with evidence and clear explanations.
  2. I can work collaboratively with my peers to write a coherent (logical) essay.
  3. I can be a productive member of a group that has a single goal to achieve. 



Mini-Lesson:  Model Collaborative Writing Process

    1. Write a sample Essay as a Class.
    2. Discuss group norms and grading.
    3. Mr. DeGrandis will divide you into collaborative groups.
    4. Every group member must have a copy of the essay written down!



    Work Time
    Create a rough draft of QuickWrite #3.

    Assessment
    Completed rough draft of QuickWrite #3.


    Homework
    Work on your section of the essay as needed.




        TUESDAY  12:2:14  Begin First Rough Draft of QuickWrite #3

    Entry Title:  My Collaborative Group
    Imagine you are observing a collaborative group that is writing a group essay like QuickWrite #3.  Make a list of some of the things you might hear group members saying OR what are some things you might see this group doing to create their collaborative essay?

      Mini-Lesson:  Create Collaborative Group Grading Rubric

      • Determine the criteria we might use to grade the productivity of your group.
      • Brainstorm ideas to help the group stay on task and complete the rough draft for QuickWrite #3



      Work Time

      • Form collaborative groups as assigned.
      • Determine how your group will proceed.
      • Complete group rough draft of QuickWrite #3.
      • Each group member will need a copy of it.
      • Hand in one copy to Mr. DeGrandis for credit.

      Assessment
      Completed rough draft of QuickWrite #3.

          WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY   12:3&4:14  Group Edit QuickWrite #3 and Write Final Copy

      3. New and Improved TREES Tag handout!

      Work Time

      1. Finish 1st rough draft of QuickWrite #3 (15 minutes only)
      2. Be sure you have your own copy of the essay for editing purposes!
      3. Using NEW and Improved TREES Tag, switch essays with another group (Mr. DeGrandis will facilitate this process).
      4. Using TREES Tag and proofreading marks, edit essays from other groups.
      5. Hand in one copy of your groups edited essay with TREES Tag staples on top to Mr. DeGrandis.

      Completed TREES Tag and Final Draft of QuickWrite #3
